Valerie Adams' Diamond League record

Valerie Adams is not just one of the most successful athletes in Diamond League history, she is also a Diamond League record holder, thanks to a superb performance in Rome back in 2012

With six Diamond Trophies to her name, the shot put superstar from New Zealand is the joint most successful female athlete in the history of the competition. If Lijiao Gong has taken up the favourite's mantle in the women's shot put over the last few years, she still has a way to go to equal Adams' incredible record in the Diamond League.

Speaking of records, Adams also holds the Diamond League record, after smashing it with an astonishing performance at the Golden Gala in 2012. Her winning mark of 21.03m was just the length of a ruler away from her personal best, and is still yet to be beaten at a Diamond League meeting.

So dominant was Adams then that five of her six throws would have been good enough to win that competition in Rome. So it was for the rest of the summer, as she went on to win all the remaining Diamond League meetings and claim a third Diamond Trophy in three years.

Adams would also take Olympic gold in London that summer, and her Diamond League dominance continued until 2015. In that year, with Adams taking a year out for maternal duties, Christina Schwanitz took the trophy. Adams was back the next year, though, winning a sixth Diamond Trophy in Brussels city centre to reassert her status as queen of the shot put.
